Algorithmic Methodology & Pharmacological Protocols
This clinical instrument executes standardized fluid therapy calculations endorsed by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) and the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP) Fluid Therapy Guidelines.
1. Maintenance Fluid Volume Formulation
Maintenance fluid accounts for sensible losses (urine, feces) and insensible losses (respiratory evaporation). Three standard methodologies are provisioned:
Feline Linear: 40-50 mL / kg / 24 hr (default 45)
Allometric Scientific: 70 * (Bodyweight_kg ^ 0.75)
The allometric equation corrects for metabolic scaling differences in smaller versus giant breed canines, preventing fluid overload in obese and pediatric subjects.
2. Deficit & Ongoing Loss Integration
Fluid deficits are resolved according to clinical dehydration assessment formulas, replenished typically over an 8 to 24-hour window:
Deficit Hourly (mL/hr) = Deficit (mL) / Replacement Window (hrs)
Gravity drip rates are derived via exact time-ratio transformations: Rate (gtt/min) = (mL/hr × Drop Factor) / 60.
